Very soft, nice quality cotton. Unfortunately washed it before first use and it came out of the wash discolored. Washed cold so not sure how or why. But still a nice mat and hope it will get lots of use. On the small side but much much more comfortable with this lovely little mat than the carpet like products made with all kinds of toxic materials marketed for toddlers. So glad I found this clean and healthy alternative and the fact that it doubles as a blanket is a bonus.
